Data-driven insights on salaries, cost of living, and relocation decisions for 182 cities worldwide.

Not all neighborhoods are created equal. While city-level cost of living data gives you a general picture, the real story is at the neighborhood level. We analyzed 3,400+ neighborhoods across 182 cities to find the most affordable places to live worldwide.

Each neighborhood is scored using an absolute COLI (Cost of Living Index), calculated by multiplying the city's baseline COLI by the neighborhood's local multiplier. A lower score means a more affordable place to live.

Key Takeaways

The most affordable neighborhoods tend to be in cities with already-low costs of living in South and Southeast Asia, Africa, and parts of Eastern Europe and Latin America. Within these cities, outer suburbs and working-class districts push costs even lower.

However, affordability always comes with trade-offs. The cheapest neighborhoods may have longer commutes, fewer amenities, or less developed infrastructure. Always balance cost against quality of life when choosing where to live.
